MEA Budapest - Budapest

The food is okay, but I wouldn’t advertise it as fine dining, it’s far from that. The burrata salad was plain cheese and tomatoes, tasted no aromatic balsamic oil. Fine dining should make it at least to some degree interesting. Beef tartare came on a soggy pear and no bread, also too peppery even for turkish style, the beef did not taste premium. We were charged aprox 6000 extra for the truffle pasta and it had 3 thin slices of truffle, the pasta was good quality but just tasted like creamy pasta, barely any truffle taste. We also had a non gluten, non-dairy guest and told explicitely she can’t have any dairy then she ended up having cream in the sauce. They made up for it by cooking something else, that’s appreciated. There was no menu available in english and the waiter clearly didn’t understand what dairy free is. The waiter also never asked if we want to drink anything. The brownie dessert was the best quality, we enjoyed that. Based on the menu it’s unclear to me what this place wants to be. Truffle pasta is Italian and this is supposed to be turkish mediterranian. They also have gulash which is hungarian. The interior atmosphere is trying too hard, the music doesn’t fit the meditteranian vibe and was too loud. The whole place feels contradictory. It aims to deliver fine dining on affordable price, but it ends failing on both terms. We had high quality beef tartare in Prague in a basic market for a cheaper price. A basic cream pasta, with 3 thin pieces of truffle is not worth 16000 Huf. My honest constructive suggestion would be to rethink what this restaurant wants to be and do that one thing well and accomodate the atmosphere for that. Also calling it affordable fine dining is just allows you to charge more for something that wants to look like fine dining, but it’s not there yet, hence you call it affordable and it just fails on both. The grill meat was good, that’s the strongest side of the restaurant. A place doesn’t become fine dining just because it’s on Andrássy street and trying too hard going for a “luxurious” atmosphere.

Péntek este munka után a feleségemmel vacsorázni mentünk a Dening City-i Mea étterembe, miután asztalt foglaltunk, és minden csodálatos volt; az étel kiváló, a hangulat pedig nagyon kellemes.

Finom bár nem kiemelkedő ételek, szerintem kicsit túl magas kategóriában indult az étterem. A belső része az étteremnek elég giccses, de hát ez ízlés kérdése :) a kiszolgálás szuper volt, köszönöm! :)
