Quality entertainment and Hungarian cuisine in restaurant Széchenyi - a floor-heated indoor restaurant in Budapest, located in the prestigious Széchenyi Spa.
The City Park has always been one of the favorite meeting and hiking places of the citizens of Budapest. In 1898, Károly Marth opened a restaurant called “Ezerjó” on the hills, opposite spas of today. Later, more restaurants had the same name.
Following the opening of the Széchenyi baths and spa, Marth’s son in-law, Ferenc Belházy opened the predecessor of today’s restaurant in 1927. The name Ezerjó was kept and the restaurant remained in the ownership of the family after 1945. In those days – for a short period of time – they held regular teaching classes in the mornings in the heated rooms of the restaurant. The restaurant has been nationalized in 1949, but its popularity remained intact. The proximity of the Zoo, the Amusement Park, the City Circus and the Széchenyi Baths as well as the good cuisine of the restaurant, the draught beer and the excellent Hungarian wines attracted many visitors. The wonderful park, the checkered table-cloth and the live music made the place even more favourable.
The Széchenyi Restaurant Ltd has been established in 1996, with the noble aim in mind to set a memory to the life and work of Count István Széchenyi and to the restaurateur culture. There was a steam engine parked in the middle of the room and the walls were decorated with decors about horse-racing. Using waters from the hot springs of the spa, a floor-heating system was built under the open-air section of the restaurant in 2005, allowing for a nice temperature during the whole season.
The new management puts a special emphasis on the quality of the drinks and meals, as well as on the service. Due to the favourable environment and atmosphere the restaurant is an excellent place for organizing family programmes, friendly or business meetings, parties or wedding receptions. The different kinds of dancing programmes organized at weekends provide an excellent entertainment opportunity for guests of all ages. Visit us, we are eagerly waiting for you, with outstanding wines and top hits of Hungarian cuisine!
