New York Café - Budapest

We've been to New York Café two times. The first time was 10-15 years ago, for a birthday dinner, when the Café Palace was still operated by the Boscolo group. That dinner had been the best restaurant visit of our lives; an unsurpassable haute cuisine, dream-like experience that would linger on in our minds for the next decade to come. That dream has ended today. We went again to dine at the Café, now operated by NH Hotels under the name "Anantara New York Palace". The occasion was again a birthday. The Café's quality has fallen into a bottomless pit. (1) Not possible to make a reservation any more. (2) Wait for 30+ minutes until you get seated. (3) The Café is filled with shoddily clad, smartphone-clutching tourists (we're natives) that are visiting for the purpose of *bragging* at home, as opposed to experiencing fine dining. I was initially worried about my mostly business casual attire sticking out like a sore thumb. Then I noticed several people in tracksuits. (4) The restaurant is packed to the brim, with a constant flux of people going in and out, and a queue *inside* the venue as well. It's not a luxurious restaurant any more, but an average eatery, or worse. The atmosphere has been entirely destroyed. (5) At our table, we were exposed to a constant cold draft that made us wish for our coats. (6) The menu is short, the courses are uninspiring and hugely overpriced, and hardly any course is gluten-free. We saw burgers and french fries being served at other tables. Burgers and french fries at the New York Café! You know what that is? It's sacrilege. We didn't stay until our order would be taken; after going through the menu, we got up and left. The interior still rocks, and I really wished to be seated in one of the gallery sections -- boy were my expectations unrealistic; it's hardly possible to get *any* seat at all, let alone a gallery table. And whatever comes after -- is a cold shower. NH Hotels have destroyed the *experience* that the Boscolo Palace once was. Don't fall for the hype. Avoid.

Gyönyörű környezet, nagyon hangulatos varázsa van a kávéháznak, csodálatos milliőbe csöppenhetünk varázslatos muzsika szó mellet. Fantasztikus zenészekkel különleges élményben lehet részünk, zene nélkül elképzelhetetlen lenne részemről az ott el töltött idő. Jó hangulat finom kávék sütik ennivalók egy pompás helyen. Mindenki teheti látogasson el ilyenből csak 1 van!!!!!!!!

Az étteremhetes vendégeket a bejárattól jobbra eső külön részben ültetik le, innen semmi nem lászik a gyönyörű belső térből, ami ennek a helynek a vonzereje. Desszert csak 2 féle volt, egy 5 csillagos szálloda éttermétől többet várnánk. Az 1500 ft-os felárral hozott libamáj kenyér/kalács nélkül érkezett, finom volt, de magában nagyon tömény. Az ételsor és a minőség nem volt kiemelkedő. Az árak annál inkább, egy literes víz 2700 ft, egy kis kóla 1600 ft, pedig belvárosi árakhoz vagyok szokva, de ez merő túlzás, nyilvan a sorbanálló japán turistákra van szabva. A felszolgálók kedvesek és gyorsak voltak.

Billed as the greatest Cafe in the world for its architecture, this certainly meets up to expectations. However everything else that followed was a severe disappointment, starting with no English written menu and a poor translation by a waiter, who looked annoyed that we had asked for a menu in English. This restaurant was participating in the food festival week of traditional Hungarian food (although it's normal genre is Italian based). A three course meal for a fixed price. That illusion was instantly shattered, by a profusion of added extras. A wine, coffee and water package if you wanted any of these, then followed by an additional surcharge for the Foie Gras starter that was only communicated well after it was ordered. The portion sizes were novelle cuisine size and the chicken breast main course turned out to be pressed thigh meat. The wait between courses averaged 25 minutes plus and the waiter service was abysmal with long waits to even clear away used crockery. The food was also lukewarm at best having travelled half way round the restaurant before arriving at our table. This restaurant is advertising gourmet dining under false pretences, with an obvious shortage of staff who displayed a gross lack of training and attention to detail. A hugely disappointing experience, compounded by them offering our coffee before the dessert, as a final act of stupidity. Surrounding tables lay uncleared for in excess of 30 minutes, despite there being huge queues of potential diners without reservations. Another lack of management supervision. Potential diners, be aware of this establishments shortcomings before contemplating a reservation. Budapest is well endowed with fantastic restaurants who can and do deliver great food and terrific service. Why would you settle for less.

Nagyon kellemes, finom ebéd volt, azt a kis malőrt leszámítva, hogy a megrendelt hal ételre a halat elfelejtették rátenni, amit azért sietve pótoltak. Kiszolgálás kifogástalan.
